People Check Facebook Even in the Bathroom
Nearly two-thirds (65%) of homes with mobile phones have a smartphone, up from 44% in 2011, according to a new Nielsen report. And smartphones are the gadget most likely to be purchased by consumers in the next six months, with 30% expecting to buy a new one, Nielsen say.
Consumers are using smartphones to help sate their appetite for social media and online video. Almost half (47%) of smartphone owners visit social networks daily, too. And two-thirds (64%) of social media users say they check their networks at least once a day via their computer, up from 61% in 2012.
Speaking to the interest in social networks — and smartphone pervasiveness — Nielsen finds that more than one in five people have tapped into social media such as Facebook or Twitter in the bathroom within the last month. And young adults are more likely to do so with 40% of those aged 18-24 using social networks in the bathroom.
